Research on the flow-coupled hydraulic transmission with development of energy efficient palm oil processing plant
It is the purpose of this work to develop energy efficient palm oil plant in order not only to reduce the energy consumption of the system but also to improve the yielding strength and life span of the plant. The processing of oil palm fruit into edible oils could be grouped into two broad methods: the traditional and modern methods. Traditional methods involved the use of unreliable and inefficient technologies leading to small scale processing and throughput while modern method involves the use of modern technology resulting to medium to large scale processing and throughput. The plant combine different process operations such as pressing, digestion , palm kernel cracking, fibre/nut separation, palm kernel oil expeller into one assembly for the purpose of efficient energy saving and life span of the machines. The energy saving is mainly achieved in three machines of the plant; the fruit digester, pulp pressing and palm kernel expeller. Hydraulic digester with special designed ram is used to pound the steamed fruit and energy is saved to the hydraulic accumulator when the digester ram retracts. The oil in the digested pulp is separated using a basket like horizontal cylindrical hydraulic press. Similarly energy is saved when the ram retracts and as hydraulic power compliments the electric power while much energy is recovered when palm kernel oil is expelled from the expeller.
