Study and experimentation on adhesive atomization characteristics of nozzle with swirl chamber distributor

Adhesive spray was adopted to attach the upper with the corresponding sole in the shoe manufacturing. And it is one of the critical processes. So far, it was accomplished by hand or semi-automation. The workers are exposure in the circumstance which is filled with toxic gasses evaporating from the adhesive agents, and it is harmful to health. In order to realize the automation, an adhesive spray gun was used. So, it is essential to study the adhesive atomization characteristics of nozzle. The experimental study on atomization characteristics of nozzle was carried out with adhesive as the working substance. The Malvern Spraytec instrument was used to measure the distribution of droplet diameter in different working conditions. Using the technologies of high-speed photograph, the spray cone angle was obtained. Thus, the best atomizing status, which was used in the process of spraying system in shoe manufacturing effectively, could be found. Compared with all data, the pressure of spray air is 3 bar while the pressure of the adhesive is between 1.6 bar and 2.4 bar, best atomizing status can be obtained. The pressure of the adhesive is 3.6 bar while the pressure of the spray air is above 5 bar, best atomizing status can be obtained. And different pressures of the spray air and adhesive have little influence on spray cone angle.
