The experimental study of improving the performance of centrifugal pumps
When the centrifugal pump with low-specific-speed and high-speed inducers working in a small-flowrate area, unstable phenomenon is very easy to be happened. It presented on outer character is that the characteristic line of its head flowrate has an increasing segment on the positive slope. To make sure that the characteristic line of the head flowrate would be decreased gradually and stably, its a good way to add orifice plates in front of the edges of the inducers and centrifugal wheels, or both in front of the entrances of the inducers and centrifugal wheels. The experimentation is proved that this method can effectively weaken the refluence and reduce the hydraulic loss, and then makes the high-speed centrifugal pump getting a very stable flow-head characteristic line. This study is a very important guidance to design a centrifugal pump with low-specific-speed inducers.
