Experimental study on flow electrification phenomena in dielectric oil flows over filter
This paper deals with an experimental study of flow electrification occurring between hydraulic oil V46 and different types of oil filters. The charges generated on the filter elements, which were fixed in the hydraulic vessel with insulating board made of acrylic resin, increases with an increasing liquid velocity flowing over the mesh. Especially, the charge generated on the paper filter elements is about ten times larger than the one from metal elements at the same open area of mesh. The electric potential of surface voltage on the filter cartridge easily rises up to 16kV, because the charge is accumulated on the boundary with its high resistivity. For the measurement of charge generated on the various perimeter of mesh, an experimental apparatus to measure flow electrification between metal and liquid was developed. From the results, it was found out that me longer the perimeter of mesh is, the larger the generated charge becomes at the same velocity of liquid through the mesh.
