EFFECTS OF NEW PRODUCTION SYSTEM FOR TIMBER

The forest covers 25 million hectare (67 percent of total land area). And the artificial forests are 10 mil lion hectare in Japan. In late years forest growing stock is increasing, while timber production is declining. Forests show many functions as below: soil conservation, water-resource protection, and photo synthesis (CO2 absorption). Such functions are brought out under adoptive management including harvest and planting. Be cause of the demand decreasing, a forest owner cannot obtain income enough to forest management. Therefore, forests do not show its functions sufficiently. New production system for timber started against present forestry depression. The system is planned for rationalization of timber distribution system. There are one of the model areas on the system in Okayama prefecture. We describe a simulation model consisted of a relationship between forest resources and forest management in Okayama. And, we examine effect of New production system on for est resources, by calculating in this simulation model.
