DELIVERY ROUTING OPTIMIZATION FOR AN INBOUND-OUTBOUND LOGISTIC CASE

Logistics management is very essential for any supply chain since this cost is the main cost of the total sup ply chain cost. The logistics cost must be reduced in order to minimize the overall cost of the chain and come up with more competitiveness of the chain. In this research, we have studied a case of logistics management of a Thai company, in which, the delivery must be done both inbound and outbound ( round trip delivery or trans shipment). This company has to deliver products from a central warehouse to regional distribution centers or customers countrywide and must carry the raw materials and/or products from the regional distribution center back to central warehouse. The items must be considered are the quantity to be delivered and the route of trucks that used for round-trip delivery. The main objective of this research is to find the optimum route that will minimize the total cost while in crease the efficiency of truck usage. We have applied a heuristic approach that based on the Genetic Algo rithms and constructed software to increase the speed and efficiency of the route assignment and especially for the practical use. We have tested the proposed algorithm with the developed software and compared with the actual route assignment assigned by the company and we have found that our approach performed very excel lent. In conclusion, this study suggested a practical approach for the management of logistics in the situation that both inbound and outbound logistics are to be considered simultaneously.
