TECHNOLOGY ACCUMULATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN THE TERMS OF DIVISION OF LABOR BETWEEN COMPANIES

Global competition of textile industry has been increasing with the rise of overseas developing textile in dustry such as China or Southern East Asian Countries. In Fukui Prefecture, which is production region of Jap anese synthetic fiber textile, the number of textile companies has been decreasing. In this report, the authors considered why overseas developing textile companies have been advancing its technology, and what is the strength of Fukui textile industry, with a perspective of division of labor between companies. As a result, overseas developing textile companies depend on technology of fiber manufacturing companies or textile machinery manufacturers, which has been taking in technologies of Japanese textile companies. Though they can catch up with manufacturing technology of them, it is difficult to get product development ca pability. That is to say, strength of Fukui textile companies is capability corresponding to brand-new material (fiber), planning capability of a textile product including industrial material.
