DECISION MAKING USING DISCRETE PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION ON WEAPON TARGET ALLOCATION IN MULTILAYER AIR DEFENSE
A Weapon Target Allocation (WTA) problem in multilayer air defense scenario is addressed in this pa per. Optimal WTA is a combinatorial optimization problem that can be solved with Discrete Particle Swarm Op timization (DPSO). The objective of WTA optimization is to allocate defensive weapon resources to incoming enemy missiles/aircraft so as to maximize the survival asset value subject to weapon and area availability at as set, cost and manpower constraints. The proposed heuristic method provides optimal number of defensive weap ons to be deployed at each asset in order to increase survivability of the assets under the known enemy attack plan. It is observed that PSO is simple to implement, flexible and robust for such complex problems. Computa tional results show that our proposed PSO algorithm is very much stable, competitive and gives promising results.
