How to Develop T-KIBS Firms Technological Capability - A Case Study on Chinese Integrated Chip Fabless Firm
The phenomenon of the service economy has gained lots attention. And the researchers have set up the issue of the Technology-based Knowledge Intensive Business Service (T-KIBS). But up to now how to build T-KIBS firms technological capability still remains as a black box, especially how the late come T-KIBS firm can survive and develop in the real world still keeps as a white space waited to be explored. This paper studies on the Chinese Integrated Chip (IC) Fabless firm, and takes it as a sample of T-KIBS firm. This study gives us a chance on how to build the late come T-KIBS firms technological capability by discussing how Chinese IC fabless firm gain technological capability under the background of current global technology capability arrangement and the user systems characteristics. After brief review the related theory on technological capability, we puts forward the conceptual framework of how T-KIBS firm gains its technological capability. And raise two main hypothesis: the complementary technology capability and the product innovation capability are critical important to the development of Chinese IC falbess firm under current industrial environment. Then we use three Chinese IC fabless firms development case to support it based field interviews and second-hand industry data. We also points the technological know-how embedded in talent inflow from the abroad is the necessarily but not sufficiency support of product innovation in Chinese IC fabless firm. The last is the suggestions of government officers and the firm managers.
