Examining Gain and Loss of Chinas Zone Economy Development From the Theory of Scale Economy
Scale economy is, in a sense, enjoys the position of being axiomatic in economics. Nowadays, it has been widely used in the study of economy efficiency of enterprises and industries. In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the relationship between the city scale and economy efficiency in the study of city economy, resulting in some results similar to those of scale economy in micro-economy. Is the theory of scale economy applicable to the industrial zone, which is the important carrier of industries in the city? And how to take the measurements? There is, no doubt, great theoretical value to these questions. In the past 20 years, the various industrial zones in China have developed into a very important mode of cluster economy. We have certainly success experiences, but also some bitter lessons. Scale economy is an ideal angle from which to examine the gain and loss of Chinas zone economy. In this paper, the author first went back briefly to the relevant studies and important results in scale economy and zone economy appraisal, home and abroad. Then through application of scale economy theory, the author defined the zone economy, reorganized the economic data collected from 13 free trade zone in China, and finally worked out a scale appraisal system, which verified the relationship between scale and efficiency of the free trade zone economy, thus revealing the scale economy nature of the zone economy. This important conclusion sheds some light on the restructuring of our industrial zones, and it will direct us onto the scale economy road in the development of zone economies.
