Intervention for Mental Health Among College Students
This paper reviews college students frequently have more complex problems today, including both the typical or expected college student problems difficulties in relationships and developmental issues as well as the more severe problems, such as depression, and thoughts of suicide. That is the finding of a study involving 437 students seeking help in Henan Polytechnic University over a 2-year period. Some of these increases were dramatic. It is important for administrators, faculty, and staff to understand the profound impact that mental health problems can have on all aspects of campus life, and to treat mental health issues as an institutional responsibility and priority. They take steps to balance the demand for services with existing resources by reviewing priorities, employing innovative strategies, and practicing good self-care to minimize stress. They will continue to play a role in supporting the mission of higher education institutions by providing counseling for students who are experiencing problems and assisting them in achieving their educational and personal goals.
