A Fluttering-to-Electrical Energy Transduction System for Consumer Electronics Applications

This paper presents a new prototype of generator which can transfer ambient wind power into electricity energy based on electromagnetic resonance principle. Different with traditional wind turbine generators, flexible belts are used to gain energy with flutter effect. Aerodynamic forces generated by certain speed airflows drive the belt to vibrate periodically during fluttering. The Nd-Fe-B magnet and outer coils design of the resonant generator is optimized to maximize the power output by FEM tool. Experiments in controllable lab condition are conducted to testify the performance of the prototype. Such generators can be used as an alternative or complementary power supply to batteries in low power consumer electronics applications.
