Applying User Session Based Technique in Web Applications Testing

Web applications have become major driving forces for world business. They have rapidly become a critical part for many organizations. Effective testing is urgently needed for web applications to provide reliable services. In this paper, we present when users operate web applications, user session data can be successfully employed in the testing of those applications. Relative to white box and black box strategies, user session based technique belongs to gray box strategy. The effectiveness of user session based technique depends on the scale of user session data collected. But too much large scale test suite size will cost too much time and energy to analyze data and result in low efficiency of testing. Therefore there is a compromise between test suite size and fault detection capability. Test cases prioritization and clustering user session data show that there are approaches to reduce the scale of test suit while enhancing the test efficiency at the same time. Combining with other techniques, user session based technique will develop further in web applications testing.
