The Economic Conditions and Characterization of the SMEs in China-Based on the Questionnaire Survey of Enterprises in Zhejiang Province, China
According to the analysis of the questionnaire survey of 529 SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) in Zhejiang Province, the prosperity index of the SMEs fell significantly in 2008, and the index will further decline slightly in 2009. In terms of the factors influencing the prosperity index, the decrease of domestic and foreign orders reduced the enterprises profitability, which resulted in the decline of investment willingness, hence the prosperity index began to slide. The main factors affecting the investment willingness include the profitability, the financing conditions and market outlook, thus it is difficult for the national investment policies to attract the non-governmental investment in the short term, whereas the financial policies can accelerate the non-governmental investment directly. The analysis of the samples demonstrates that the decrease of prosperity index is directly proportional to the scale of the enterprises and the ratio of export, and the export-oriented enterprises therefore, are facing tougher challenges. There is a significant difference between the prosperity indexes of various industries, among which the pharmaceutical and chemical industry was the least affected.
