An Introduction of Shadow Mapping Rendering Algorithms in Realistic Computer Graphics

Shadow is always being one of the most attractive subjects because of its important role in the field of computer realistic graphics. As one mainstream technology of the real-time soft shadow rendering methods, shadow mapping is extensively used in various graphical applications due to their generality and efficiency. In past years, there are many variations of the algorithms proposed to improve the original method in order to alleviate aliasing, enhance efficiency, etc. In this paper, we give a complete survey of shadow mapping algorithms. Basic idea, implementation, and various improvements of the algorithms are discussed in details.
