A Method for Updating Road Map via GPS
This paper presents a method for updating road map via GPS (Global Positioning System). First of all, probe vehicles equipped with GPS receivers are used to collect the up-to-date road data, GPS vehicle traces. Then, with the data, a road bitmap is constructed based on morphological operations. Next, a skeleton of the bitmap is computed. Finally a vector road map is extracted from the skeleton. Experiment results of generating a campus road network map are provided to demonstrate performance of the method.
