Risk Management in Asset Management Processes
Many network companies in the electricity transmission industry have introduced risk management as an integral part of the asset owner - asset management - service provider organization model. Risk management, the identification, assessment and management of risks, is one of the key processes of asset management. This philosophy is also consistent with the recommendations in international standards for Asset Management. Asset managers are increasingly confronted with decisions involving repair, replacement or refurbishment of components suspected to be near to the end of their technical lives. To structure these issues, many electricity transmission companies have adopted risk-based processes. There are a wide variety of approaches in use by network companies. This paper will provide insight into the range of approaches to risk management currently utilized by organizations that have supported the work of Cigre working group C1.16.
