Influence research of Jiuquan large-scale wind Farms on power system and countermeasures

JiuQuan is one of the areas with abundant wind resource in Gansu province, and the installed capacity of wind power in Jiuquan area will achieve 5160 MW and 12710MW in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Due to the fact that large scale wind farms of Jiuquan area have characteristics of high capacity, being distant to load center, there are inevitably some unfavorable influence on power systems, which should be discussed and the countermeasures to overcome these issues should be proposed. This paper discusses some problems which are encountered duringthe development of wind farms of Jiuquan area. Firstly, based on the characteristics of wind power in Jiuquan area and electrical sources in North West Grid, a model of regulation using hydropower to complement wind energy was proposed, and the regulation ability that the whole North West grid was analyzed. Secondly, the transmission plan of wind power in JiuQuan area was also studied.
