Surveying Theory and Practice of Organizational Citizenship Behavior in the Context of China

Through review of the research on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), this paper finds, previous research on OCB indicates that such behavior is critical for organizational effectiveness, but little theoretical work pay attention to its negative effects, especially in China. Based on the scholars theoretical and empirical analysis, this paper explores the connotation, the motives of OCB, the relationship between Chinese Collectivism, staff, career outcomes and OCB in the background of China. These confirm that OCB should have the new connotation and theoretical hypotheses and a lot of negative effects. This paper suggests that future research needs to focus on identifying the instances or circumstances in which such a relationship is most likely to exist.
