On the Basic Theory of Motivation

Motivation is the basic category and core concept in behavioral science. Many behavioral scientists based their own theories or doctrines on it. Although these theories and doctrines are reasonable to some extent, they are not very helpful for managers to understand the full connotation of motivation, which greatly affects the application of the motivation theory into the practice of management. In order to help managers understand the concept of motivation and relative theories, it is necessary to integrate the motivation theory based on these theories and construct a comprehensive motivating model. Based on the current theories about motivation, this essay discussed this model and summed up the full connotation of the concept of motivation from three aspects -purpose, process and means.
