Empowerment Behavior and Psychological Empowerment: Mediating role of LMX and Moderating Role of Locus of Control

This study examined whether LMX mediated the effects of empowerment behavior on psychological empowerment and also examined how locus of control (internal) moderated the relationship between empowerment behavior and psychological empowerment. The sample is 197 employees from 6 companies in Shenzhen. Result of regression analysis showed that LMX partially mediated the relationship between empowerment behavior and psychological empowerment; and locus of control moderated the relationship between empowerment behavior and psychological empowerment in such a way that the relationship will be stronger for people with higher, rather than lower internals. Implications for research and practice of our findings are discussed.
