Risk Analysis for EPB Shield Construction of River –Crossing Tunnel

In this paper, the expert investigation, analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fault tree analysis (FTA) are employed in the appraisal of the risk of river-crossing shield tunnel, which is usually high due to high-pressure water, gravel layer and cystic uneven marsh gas. The result shows that the classification of thirteen kinds of risk is ascertained by expert investigation, and the tunneling excavation soil surface instability under river bottom, connected aisle, tool changing with pressure under river bottom-the relative weight of the basic risk of which are all ascertained by AHP and the marsh gas explosion are all high-risk events.The paper also analyzed the marsh gas explosion accident by FTA, got 81 least cut sets and 6 least path sets, and put forward 6 ways to avoid such explosion. Finally, countermeasures to high-risk events are provided, which offer references for guaranteeing the implementation of the project.
