Numerical Researches on Stability of Tunnel with Cavity Locating Underneath

Influence of caves on the project during the failure process is complex and challengeable. In this paper, a RFPAstrength reduction software is used to investigate the stability influence of tunnel with cavity locating underneath. The stability variety rule of road project is analysed in the condition that the diameter and location of the cave are different. The numerical results demonstrate that the change of the cavitys diameter and distance diameter ratio (DDR) is much influential to the stability of the tunnel. The safety coefficient and stability of the tunnel increase with the increase of the caves diameter and DDR. The influence of the caves location on the stability of the tunnel is variable. When the diameter of the cave is less than the tunnels span, the tunnel collapses prior to the cave. The damage propagates gradually to the rock near the cave when the diameter of the cave increases. In contrast, as the diameter of the cave is bigger than the tunnels span, only a little damage occurs in the surrounding rocks of the tunnel while the cave collapses.
