Intersection Traffic Signal Time Division Method Based on Wavelet Analysis
Time division is one of the steps of intersection signal timing optimization, and it is an important method to solve the problem that timing scheme how to meet the need of signalized intersection traffic demand with uneven distribution. According to detailed traffic data detected form signalized intersection, the critical lane flow rate was analyzed by one dimensional wavelet transformation method, and then the variation tendency of unit rate of flow was acquired, after analyzing the timing divisions deficiency at present. In the view of some inference of Webster best cycle theory, that is the vehicle delay would not change too much if the signal cycle is in the given confine around the best cycle, the border of the time phases can be selected, as well as the interval of unit rate of flow, and then the time division plan of signalized intersection was set. The two time division plans, by new method based on wavelet analysis and artificial method coming from experience, was simulated in real-time mode by the PTV traffic simulation software VISSIM, and the average delay results of both method was compared. Furthermore, the validity of the new approach on time division based on wavelet analysis was proved.
