Comparative study on discrepancy of compact strategies by different city scale
Recently, de-population in urban centers of regional cities has become a major problem in Japan. And compact city strategy has been focused as solution to this problem. In this paper, compacting strategies of two different cities with different characteristic are compared. One is Kitakyushu city of 1,000,000 people. The other is Yonago city of 150,000 people. The method of the compact strategy of the city is led by analyzing the structure of city, the rate of change the total population of the city and urban center, the relation between city scale and rate of change in population and the movement of population between cities in vicinity. Through this analysis, following facts became apparent; As cities get larger, rate of population increase becomes larger. Remote regional cities seems to have disadvantage in compacting strategies, but it is not always so. And regional cities with multi centered structures have disadvantage in making compact cities. Therefore, a city scale doesnt necessarily work advantageously in the compact strategy.
