Evaluation on Introducing Combined Heat and Power (CHP) System in Residential Buildings in Changchun
Combined heat and power (CHP) system is a system that could obtain two or more second energy from the first energy, The fundamental of CHP is that the Gas Engine produce power and obtain high quality power with natural gas to meet power load of a building. Meanwhile, the emitted heat from the power equipment could meet the heating load 。 It could reduce the energy cost considerably. This paper discusses the effect of energy saving, environmental impact and economic performance when introducing combined CHP system in new residential buildings in Changchun. The selected research subject is Xin Yuan Garden. Conclusions derived from it could be extended to Changchun. Because of similarities in climate conditions between Changchun and Tokyo, on the basis of the intensity of energy consumption of Tokyo, this paper could reckon the intensity of energy consumption of Changchun in accordance with degree day correction. Energy demands of Changchun are calculated in accordance with areas of different types of buildings and the intensity of energy consumption. Four energy supply systems are set up, namely air-conditioning system (system 1), boiler system (system 2) and two combined heat and power systems (system 3 and system 4). Likewise, equipment efficiency, equipment price, energy price and CO2 emission intensity are postulated. According to calculated and given data to calculate primary energy consumption, CO2emission, initial cost, annual operation costs and payback periods. The results are as follows: boiler system, CHP systems energy saving rates are respectively -2.1%, 21.2% and 6.0%, CO2 reduction rates are respectively -0.7%, 24.1% and 9.4% and payback periods are respectively 18. 1, 8.2 and 4.6 years relative to the airconditioning system. Comparing the results of four systems, it could conclude that CHP systems would be attractive options when introducing energy system in new residential building.
