A study on Air-Conditioning Load of S residence unit by comparison with RC unit

Recently, fight against global warming is becoming more and more important. As a main energy consumer, air-Conditioning loads (hereinafter referred to as AC loads) are becoming an important issue in our life. Therefore, effect of unit styles and AC patterns on AC load should be verified before the building is constructed. This paper examines AC loads of two different kinds of residence units which are S (Steel) unit and RC (Reinforced concrete) unit. For this examination, the dynamic simulation software THERB (the simulation software of the thermal environment of residential buildings) is employed. Three AC patterns are investigated. The setting temperature for heating is assumed to be 17℃, and the setting temperature for cooling AC to be 28℃. The insulation style of RC unit is exterior wall outside insulation, which is usually used recently. By the comparison with S and RC residence unit, environmental feature of two unit styles in different seasons has been verified. In the summer, because of the low heat capacity of S unit, room temperature is lower than RC unit during night and the AC load is lower notably. In the winter, the AC load of RC unit is higher than that of S unit.
