Study on sustainable development in Jilin province by establishment Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC)

Based on the economic and environmental datum from 1992 to 2004, the Environment Kuznets Curve (EKC) model was setup to examine the relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation in Jilin, China. The economic index per capita GDP was taken to measure the economic development level and the environmental pollution index was the emissions of industrial wastewater, waste gas, solid waste, soot, SO2 and COD. The results indicated that the pollution level was worst when the per capita GDP ranged from 4000 to 5000 yuan in Jilin. It is very different between Jilin and any other country (the worst pollution level when the per capita GDP ranges from 4000 to 5000 dollar in other countries). The characteristic of EKC could be due to the extensive economic development model. In order to harmonize the development of economy and environment and meet the objective of sustainable development in Jilin, it must get on with adjusting the development model.
