Kitakyushus Initiative on Energy Saving and Carbon off of a City
With rapid development of urbanization and industrialization, the environmental problems, such as global warming, have already reached to a critical dimension affecting human health, the national economy and the natural ecosystem. Enhancing the environmental protection and constructing a Low Carbon Eco Society are attracted particular attention and have become common-acknowledged issues all over the world. The City of Kitakyushu, ever suffering quite severe pollutions due to the random urban industrialization, have already evolved into a well-known Eco Model city as an initiative on energy saving and carbon off all over the world, ascribing to some considerable efforts and effective countermeasures in which the partnership among government, citizens and private enterprises has been emphasized. The successful practice is firmly valuable to be selectively adopted for reference by other regions or countries in order to improve the environmental problems. In this paper, we introduce the practice of environment challenge in Kitakyushu and subsequently of low carbon society in detail, and discuss the possibility of transferring the city of Kitakyushus experience to developing countries.
