Noise Reduction Effects due to Configuration of Building facade - A Study on Breeze-Soleil by Geometrical Acoustic Simulation -
The eaves and balcony are often fixed in the building facade in order to control solar radiation. It is well known that these heat load reduction effects contribute to saving energy in the urban environment. However, the indoor acoustical environment has the possibility to decrease by traffic noise because the shape of the building facade reflects the noise into the room. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence that the shape of the building facade gives an incident property into the window of the road traffic noise. The study used basic examination of noise reduction effect sound pressure level distribution to the window and the insertion loss with or without eaves. The middle high buildings fixed with four kinds of eaves, i.e. flat, inclination of 45° degrees, vertical, composition of flat and vertical, were assumed as analysis models. After the sound source was set up in front of this model, the noise reduction effect of each eaves was analyzed using geometrical acoustic simulation. We obtained some result as follows: ① A sound pressure level tends to be high level in upper part of the window in case of eaves with horizontal ledge and incidence angles from 30 degrees to 65 degrees. ② The diffraction effect introducing to geometrical acoustic simulation was valid. ③ The 45 degrees slant eaves could expect a high noise reduction effect
