Investigation and evaluation on distributed energy system at Kitakyushu Science and Research Park during 2007

In this paper, the introduction of small-scale distributed energy system in Kitakyushu Science and Research Park (KSRP) has been carried out as a case study in Japan. It can be found that the heat discarded from the fuel cell and gas engine was utilized to supply the heat load for heating, cooling and hot water. Furthermore, the analysis of electricity generating efficiency and heat recovery efficiency were carried out using hourly recorded data by the system in order to evaluate the operation of the energy systems in KSRP during 2007. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) The overall energy efficiencies for the energy system in KSRP have a considerable improvement compared with conventional system. 2) Both fuel cell and gas engine had lower electricity generating efficiency and heat recovery efficiency than catalogue value. 3) In summary, the introduction of distributed energy system is an attractive option for a small-scale campus scheme in Japan.
