Design and Control of Evolving SOA-based Distributed Optical Networks
With the growth of communication technologies, research on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based distributed optical networks which enable an efficient utilization of geographical distributed resources becomes very attractive. The deployment of such network, however, brings some new hard research issues, including network architecture, resource management, parallel communication, lightpath provisioning and so on. In this paper, we propose SOA-based distributed optical ntwork architecture and establish a prototype testbed according to this architecture. Then a minimum cost based resource co-allocation scheme which allows a single-step scheduling of application resource and network resource is proposed. To take full advantage of distributed resources and huge bandwidth in optical network, we put forward a multi-path parallel transmission mechanism which could effectively decrease transmission time of data-intensive applications. For users with various requirements, a Quality-of-Service (QoS)-aware lightpath provisioning method which is able to enhance network resource efficiency is also introduced. All proposed schemes are deployed on the prototype testbed and experiment results successfully verify their validity.
