Concentrations and distribution characters of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans in agriculture soil in the vicinity of two municipal waste incinerators
To examine the influence of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) emissions from the municipal solid waste (MSW) incinerators on the agriculture soil environment. EPA1613 was introduced to analyze 41 agricultural soil samples, collected respectively within a radius of 3 km from two MSW incinerations in Shanghai. The concentrations of 17 kinds of 2,3,7,8-PCDD/Fs ranged from 71.32~3881.44 pg/g (0.64~61.15 pg I-TEQ/g), with an average value of 349.47 pg/g (4.73 pg I-TEQ/g). The peak value of concentration of 2,3,7,8-PCDD/Fs was found at about 1000m from the MSWI. Comparison of the homologue patterns and a multivariate statistical analysis showed that some of the soil samples were influenced by the MSW incinerations, but also some unidentified combustion sources, vehicles and the application of sodium pentachlorophenate (Na-PCP) might influence the environment to some extent.
