Evaluation of PBDD/Fs and PCDD/Fs emissions from metallurgical processes:A case study for fly ash sample from the EAF facility
Various industrial thermal sources involved in incinerators, crematories and metallurgic facilities were investigated for the occurrence and characteristic of 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) and polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs) in a forthcoming submitted work. The ranges of PBDD/Fs I-TEQ concentrations from the incinerators, crematories, and metallurgic facilities were found to be 12-54,10-23 and 140-1500 pg/Nm3, respectively. The concentration of PBDD/Fs from the metallurgical processes was considerable and such processes might act as potential important PBDD/Fs emission sources. In this study, fly ash sample collected from an electric arc furnace (EAF) was analyzed f as a case to evaluate PCDD/Fs and PBDD/Fs emission from metallurgical sources. The I-TEQ concentrations of PCDD/Fs and PBDD/Fs are 1.6 and 0.29 ng/g respectively while the total concentrations are 97 and 23 ng/g respectively in the fly ash sample. The difference existed in PBDD/Fs and PCDD/Fs congener and homologue profiles might be caused by the vibration of bromine inputs, stereo-structure of PBDD/Fs or different formation pathway and further researches are expected to carry out.
