The First Japanese Inter-laboratory Trial for Perfluorochemical Analysis in Water (JIL-PFOS-2008), Using the ISO Method 25101: Performance Verification
Here we report two examples of standard analytical method development and inter-laboratory study for PFOS and related chemicals based on the ISO (International Standardization Organization) protocols. The first international standard method for analysis of PFOS and PFOA in water, ISO25101, and the first Japanese inter-laboratory comparison exercise for PFOS and related chemicals conducted in 2008 (JIL-PFOS-2008). Both of these examples are useful to validate in-house methods for several investigators involved in perfluorochemical analysis, and for comparison of results between in-house methods and with methods/values reported in the literature. The ISO25101 method can be used as a reference for comparison of in-house methods. This will increase the quality of the data produced from laboratories performing perfluorochemical analysis to enable reliable risk assessment and decision making on PFOS related chemicals.
