EVALUATION OF GC-HR-TOFMS TECHNIQUES APPLIED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
In the present study, application of gas chromatography/high resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-HR-TOFMS) for environmental analysis was evaluated. HR-TOFMS has high sensitivity for measuring as low as sub-picogram levels with high resolution. This can also provide full-scan information and exact mass measurement within around 5ppm. Furthermore 2-dimesional MAP data assignment, individual exact mass spectrum and exact mass chromatography data processing can be used for screening analysis of suspected compounds as one of the new techniques with only one injection. Additionally it is possible to identify unknown compounds in routine Dioxin and POPs analysis especially for many kinds of organohalogenated compounds. Most of accurate masses of identified compounds are within few mDa compared to the theoretical accurate masses. Semi quantification data of POPs analysis in biological samples obtained by isotope dilution method with GC-HR-TOFMS are compared with those acquired through conventional GC-HRMS SIM. These results suggest that GC-HR-TOFMS is a useful instrument for full characterization and profiling of chemical components in a whole range of sample types in addition to selectivity, specificity, increased sensitivity and easy and accurate data interpretation for getting data of highest reliability.
