PERFLUORINATED COMPOUNDS IN SEWAGE SLUDGE SAMPLES FROM GERMANY, COLLECTED IN 2009
Perfluorinated compounds (PFC) are found in a wide range of products, because of their stability toward acids, bases and heat as well as for their inert and non adhering surface properties. In this study we present data from sewage sludge samples collected 2009 in Germany and analyzed in our laboratory. All sewage sludge samples were analyzed within the normal analytical day to day procedures. The analyses were performed following the isotope dilution method. The analytical standards used are 2 native standards (PFOS and PFOA) and 3 internal 13C labeled standards (13C4-PFOS, 13C4-PFOA and 13C8-PFOA). The total number of samples analyzed in this study resulted at 472 samples. Values for median and mean concentration for the sum of PFOS and PFOA are 100.6 μg/kg and 18.3 μg/kg dry matter respectively. The highest values were found for the total of PFOS and PFOA at 1920 at μg/kg dry matter. Sewage sludge contaminated with levels above 100 μg/kg total PFOS and PFOA are not allowed for use on soil. In this study we observed 19,9 % of the samples to be above the recommended action level.
