METHOXYLATED AND HYDROXYLATED POLYBROMINATED DIPHENYL ETHERS IN BROWN BULLHEAD (Ameiurus Nebulosus) PLASMA FROM LAKE ONTARIO
Methoxylated (MeO-) and Hydroxylated (OH-) polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were detected and quantified in brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus) from Lake Ontario. Samples were collected in 2006 from three different locations: Frenchmans Bay, Toronto Island and Tommy Thompson. A total of 117 plasma samples were pooled into 19 samples, separating males and females. Pooled samples were evaluated for 20 MeO-PBDEs and 20 OH-PBDEs, four MeO- and eight OH- were detected. Concentration of total OH-PBDEs ranged between N.D.-3.35 and 0.14-1.28 ng/g wet weight for females and males respectively. MeO-PBDEs were detected at a lower concentration, and ranged between N.D. and 0.10 ng/g and 0.01-0.09 ng/g wet weight for females and males respectively.
