GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC RETENTIONS OF 180 POLYBROMINATED DIPHENYL ETHERS
The gas chromatographic (GC) retention times of 180 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) on two commonly used capillary columns, Restek Rtx-1614 and J&W DB-5MS, were obtained under three oven temperature programs. The relative retention times (RRTs) for PBDEs were calculated by normalizing the retention times of individual congeners to the sum of those of BDEs 47 and 183. There are few cross-homolog retention time overlaps for PBDEs. Within the same homolog, ortho-substituted PBDE congeners tend to elute earlier than those with bromines at para and meta positions. Correlation regression equations were established for the relative retention times from the three programs to indicate the feasibility of retention time prediction for other GC conditions.
