DEGRADATION OF HCB USING THE SYNTHESIZED HIERARCHICAL IRON OXIDE
Hexachlorobenzene (HCB), as a model compound of toxic chlorinated aromatics, was degraded by the hierarchical flowerlike iron oxide synthesized via a simple ethylene glycol mediated reaction route. It was found that HCB was rather quickly degraded by as-prepared hierarchical flowerlike iron oxide at low temperature of 300℃. Within the short reaction time of 30 min, degradation efficiency of HCB reached 90%. This was much higher than that by commercial iron oxides. The better performance could be attributed to the highly porous structure and high surface area of the prepared 3D hierarchical iron oxides.
