ASSESSMENT OF THE DIETARY EXPOSURE OF PCBS OF THE KOREAN PEOPLE

Total PCBs(62 congeners) was surveyed using isotope dilution method in retailed foods including rice, meats, milk and dairy food, egg and fisheries in Korea, and it was estimated based food intake(g/day) published Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs and mean body weight(55 kg) of Korean. Distribution for total PCBs was showed as fisheries(94.4%) > meats(2.3%) > eggs(1.7%) > milk and dairy products(1.3%) > rice(0.3%). The level was investigated as follow; rice 0.13 ng/g, meats 1.83-3.44 ng/g, milk and dary products 0.31-3.73 ng/g, egg 9.96 ng/g, fisheries 0.77(oyster)-34.42(hairtail) ng/g., it was less than maximum level or guidance level established by USA, Japan and Austria and New Zealand. The ratio for indicator PCBs congeners(IUPAC No. #28, #52, #101, #118, #153, #138 and #180) in total PCBs food was contributed as rice 7.0%, meats 18.2%, milk and diary products 10.7% and fisheries 34.4%. Estimated daily intake(EDI) of Korean through foods was estimated as 14.4 ng/kg bw/day, and it was about 0.3% compared with tolerable daily intake(TDI; 5,000 ng/kg bw/day) estimated by Japan. Consequently, it could not have adverse effect in risk health.
