ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR PERFLUOROALKYL COMPOUNDS IN WASTEWATER AND SLUDGE
Pretreatment and instrumental analytical method was set up for series of perfluorinated alkylsulfonates (PFASs) and perfluorinated carboxylic acids (PFCAs) in wastewater and sludge. The concentration of the target compounds in the effluent and sludge from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Tianjin was investigated. Oasis WAX was found a suitable matrix for concentrating the target compounds from water phase, especially for those with short carbon chain. Neutral extraction under sonication and clean up with direct addition of Envicarbon was proved to be a simple and efficient method for sludge samples. The extracted PFASs and PFCAs were analyzed by HPLC-MS/MS. By this method, the recovery of the target compounds from waste water ranged from 62.5 to120.0% for wastewater, and 88.2 to 99.0% for the sludge. It was found for the first time that PFBS was high in wastewater. For PFOA and PFOS, the most concerned fluorinated compounds, PFOA in the WWTP in Tianjin was comparable to other place in the world, and PFOS was low in water phase, but it is easier to be accumulated in sludge.
