Study on Spark Energy Control and Measurement System for Electronic-controlled Automotive Engine
The spark energy control and measurement system has been successfully developed for automotive engine fueled with compressed natural gas (CNG). In order to control the spark energy accurately , the charging time of primary coil was adjusted through series communication inerface. During the cold starting process, according to the engine speed, multi-pulse ignition was introduced before the top dead center (TDC) in compression stroke. Refer to SAE J973-1993 standard, series Zener diodes were adopted as simulation load, the spark energy measurement sub-system was successfully developed. The output energy of secondary coil was adopted to evaluate the spark energy. The test results show that the spark energy can be evaluated quantitatively and effectively. For the electronic-controlled automotive CNG engine JL465Q5, when the engine speed is lower than 2500rpm, the optimized charging time of the primary coil is 6ms, when the engine speed is between 2500rpm and 5000rpm, the optimized charging time of the primary coil is 3ms, when the engine speed is higher than 5000rpm, the optimized charging time of the primary coil is 2ms. During the starting process (when the engine speed is lower than 600 rpm), multi-pulse ignition was introduced before TDC, the optimized interval of multi-pulse is 1.28ms.
