Dimethyl Ether Synthesis and Its Application in Diesel Engine
Dimethyl ether is considered to be the most promising alternative fuel in future because of its excellent combustion property and safety performance to human beings and environment. DME can be produced from a variety of feed-stock especially renewable resource bio-mass through syngas by two-step process or/and single step process with a bifunctional catalyst. The bifunctional catalyst contains a methanol-synthesis catalyst and a methanol dehydration catalyst. A summary on characteristics of DME, DME production and DME as diesel fuel sbustitute for engines is presented.
