A novel method for measuring spray velocity and droplets size distribution based on binocular visual and particle image gray difference
A novel method for measuring spray velocity and droplets size distribution was presented based on binocular vision and the Particle Image Gray Difference (PIGD) method, and the corresponding testing system was developed. According to the Mie scattering theory, when a beam of laser scattered by a particle, the intensity of scattered laser varies from the observation angle. So, when two digital cameras are placed at different shooting angle, two photos with different grayscale of the same particles are captured. The whole measuring system was tested on the simulative and experimental data, and the following results were concluded: the autocorrelation velocity processing can be used in this method; and the velocity direction ambiguity, the problem of this processing can also be resolved by certain algorithm; the particle velocity and size distribution can be obtained by this method with considerable accuracy.
