Effects of different excess air ratio on WOT Performance of HCNG engine
In order to study the influence of the 0-50% hydrogen by volume addition on WOT (Wide Open Throttle) performance; an experimental research was conducted on a 6-cylinder throttle-body injection natural gas engine. Experiments have been made under various excess air ratios using various fuels including: 100% CNG ( Compressed Natural Gas ) , 10%HCNG(hydrogen enriched compressed natural gas), 30l% HCNG, and 50% HCNG where the hydrogen ratios are measured by volume. The results show that hydrogen addition decreased both the CH4 and CO emissions although increased the NOx emission. Using the same excess air ratio, as more hydrogen is added, the torque, power and exhaust temperatures decrease before the lean burn limit and raises after lean burn limit, and the early flame develop period and flame propagation duration are longer, and the max heat release rate is smaller.
