Harmonic Transmission Characteristic and Suppression of Unbalanced Power System

This paper detailed analyzed the characteristic of multi-harmonic sources in unbalanced power system, taking the Yd11 traction transformer of electrified railway for instance. Four types of connection mode were tested to illustrate the interaction between multi-harmonic sources. Then, four passive power filter schemes were applied to compensate the unbalanced harmonic component. Distinct from existing research, the experiments were focus on interaction among substations. The result of experiments shown that the type that the power filter and the non-linear load are in the same substation and the same phase, has the best filtering effect, with the THD of system current reducing to 4.2% averagely. Meanwhile, the type that the filter and the non-linear load were in the same phase but in different substations also has a good filtering effect, and the THD of filtered current was about 5.3%. Oppositely, the other two types would enlarge the harmonic content of specific phase.
