Studies of Microhydroelectricity Projects in Hong Kong
In recent years, there have been a number of renewable energy (RE) projects in Hong Kong, varying from building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, to wind turbine, to micro-hydro electric generation. Most of these will use grid-connection to maximize the benefit from these renewable energy sources and at the same time reduce the cost. However, there are a number of issues to be considered during the design of the system when grid connection is the final aim. These include the suitable voltage level of connection, synchronization (in some cases), power flow control, safety, protection and reliability, etc. This paper will discuss briefly on these issues and an example of a hydroelectric project in Hong Kong will be explained along the discussion.
