In this work, the regioregular poly (3- hexylthiophene) (rr-P3HT) thin films are prepared by drop cast method using chloroform as the solvent. The prepared thin films are irradiated by a KrF excimer laser with emission wavelength of 248nm. We investigate the laser ablation effect on the morphological properties of the self-assembled thin films. After laser treatment, the optical absorption spectra for the rr-P3HT thin films represented a gradually disappearing vibronic feature, which implies a lower degree of crystallization or polymer chain ordering. The X-ray diffraction patterns also show drastic change with the laser irradiation. We analyze the relationship between XRD peak intensity and laser fluence, the results indicate that the orientation of rr-P3HT molecule on the substrate has changed perpendicular to parallel. As a result, we have demonstrated that the polymer chain morphology can be influenced through laser ablation.
