Generation expansion planning to reduce CO2 emission

In order to reduce CO2 emission, it is necessary to study generation expansion planning with economy performance. We have studied generation expansion planning method based on the method optimized from both environmental and economical points of view. Dynamic Programming is applied for the study with plural target years. First, all generation mix candidates (nodes) are prepared to satisfy CO2 emission boundary at each target year. Next, the path with the minimum cost is obtained from the path that linked nodes between target years. Optimal generation expansion plan is the least cost path to the last target year. We have simulated for various CO2 emission reduction scenario with four target years. As a result, the case that CO2 emission boundary decreases gradually first and then decreases drastically leads to the lowest cost plan. The result is affected with used data for simulation like future demand, fuel cost, CCS cost and technology performance. The proposed method, however, would evaluate CO2 emission reduction with higher precision data.
